Autumn looks
The Sleek Silhouette Trousers: They make a refreshing change from the peg-leg trousers which have reigned supreme for seasons now, so this autumn we’re swapping our allegiance to cigarette pants. Key to this style is just the right amount of ankle exposure. Our favourite? This grey pair by Stella McCartney (£415) — understated and super-chic. (020 7518 3100)

All we want to wear for Autumn

A word of warning before we get started on autumn: these looks are not for the faint-hearted.

If you are skint or a little over-keen to comply with the Prime Minister's new age of austerity, continue only with caution.

While this summer's pick and mix of printed maxi-dresses and bottom-skimming flappy skirts was fairly forgiving as far as the bank balance was concerned, the new season promises to be a rather more costly affair.

That's the trouble with autumn/winter you see — as far as fashion is concerned, it's too darn delicious. Irresistible, in fact.

Don't believe us? Take a wander around Selfridges' accessory department — a haven brimming with shiny-new Mulberry Neely bags and Proenza Schouler PS1 satchels — and you'll rapidly get the picture.

And bags are only the tip of the iceberg. From Burberry jackets to cutesy Louis Vuitton prom dresses and pretty much anything designed by Phoebe Philo, the new season offers up a smorgasbord of designer delights, so delectable that even the thriftiest among us will find it impossible to resist. Here are a few of our favourites...
