What to wear this week

Evening Standard   17 Aug 2010

Here are this week's must have fashion and beauty buys, from a gorgeous dress to an elegant ring

Oh, What a Night
Following the success of last year's Vogue-sponsored Fashion's Night Out, the shopping event is back. And it's even better than before. Due to take place on September 8 in the 13 cities in which Vogue publishes, the late-night shopping evening will see hundreds of retailers unite with a heady mix of in-store activities, limited-edition designs and extended opening hours. Among some 200 London brands taking part are Mulberry, which is opening up its flagship store in New Bond Street for an evening of festivities.

Renowned for its ability to throw a party, Mulberry will be pulling out all the stops and has called in the services of face-painters, DJs and even a Singstar machine. In between throwing a few shapes on the shop-floor and belting out a tune or two, customers will be invited to sip prosecco and munch on pies as they browse the new collection, including the dress above

Wings of desire
This darling bird-detail ring (£129) is the work of jewellery designer Becca, whose current collection focuses on classic designs of yesteryear — think birds, cameos and vintage-inspired engraving. We want it all. Available from ECOne (econe.co.uk)

On the Marni
No one does graphic prints like the fashion editors' favourite, Marni, and, luckily for us, the label has launched two exclusive new designs. We adore the print on this ladylike handbag (£468), intriguingly titled Self-Composed in Space, perfect for teaming with pencil skirts and kitten heels. Strange concept, great result. (marni.com)
