Mel Gibson says that leading Hollywood figures have refused to work with him

Shame-faced Mel Gibson has described his anti-Semitic rant after his arrest for drink-driving in July as 'the stupid ramblings of a drunkard'.

In an interview to be shown today in the US, Gibson says leading Hollywood figures have refused to work with him.

The superstar also admits staying sober is a struggle but says he has not had a drink for 65 days.

Gibson, 50, told Good Morning America that he plans to continue making movies and working to heal those he offended.

'The last thing I want to be is that kind of monster, all you can do is take another step,' he says. He pleaded no contest to charges of drink-driving.

OK, so the man is human. When we drink, we all do things that we later wish we had not done. He didn't kill anyone. Let's give the man a break.
