Scarface star set for lifetime award

Scarface legend Al Pacino is to be honoured for his 40-year acting career.

The Oscar-winner will be presented with the American Film Institute's highest accolade, the AFI Lifetime Achievement Award.

Sir Howard Stringer, chairman of the AFI, described the 66-year-old as an American icon of film. 'His career inspires audiences and artists alike,' he added.

The 35th AFI Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to Pacino in Los Angeles on June 7 next year.

Previous recipients include Sir Sean Connery, Martin Scorsese, Steven Spielberg and Elizabeth Taylor. Pacino has won numerous accolades including a best actor Oscar for Scent Of A Woman in 1993.

He has been nominated for an Academy Award eight times. His other film hits include The Godfather series, Scarface and Serpico.
