The Life Of Brian is seen as blasphemous and offensive by Christian groups

Life Of Brian contains funniest gag

Christian groups denounced Monty Python's Life Of Brian as blasphemous and offensive. But a survey reveals that its fans think the irreverent 1979 film, which follows the exploits of a man who is mistaken for the Messiah, contains the Monty Python team's funniest scene.

The moment comes when Terry Jones, playing the mother of the reluctant saviour, addresses a crowd of thousands who have come to praise her son and declares: "He's not the Messiah, he's a very naughty boy."

The line even pushed the dead parrot sketch into second place. The survey was carried out by Yahoo Movies to mark the release of a new Monty Python DVD.

Personal Bests, a collection of six DVDs including new material of the Pythons introducing their favourite moments from the show, is out today.

FUNNIEST FIVE

1. "He's not the Messiah..." (Life Of Brian, 1979)

2. Dead parrot (Monty Python's Flying Circus, 1969)

3. The black knight (Monty Python And The Holy Grail, 1975)

4. "Romans go home" (Life Of Brian,1979)

5. Lumberjack song (Monty Python's Flying Circus, 1969)
