BFI archive to offer a free view into TV past
Mark Prigg, Evening Standard22 Feb 2007
The British Film Institute today unveiled plans to give Londoners access to the world's biggest archive of moving images.
The archive contains historic cinematic moments such as Audrey Hepburn's first screen test, news footage of the Queen's coronation and the first episodes of Coronation Street and Blue Peter.
The BFI has 14 computers at the new South Bank complex, which will open next month, where people can search the archive free.
The service will have 750 films, TV shows and video clips, in a digitised format, by the end of the year.
"This is Britain's history, and a lot of the material we have is utterly unique," said Oscar-winning director Anthony Minghella, the chairman of the BFI.

This service will be useful for all those film buffs, and enable them to find the films they are looking for under one umbrella. I hope it will be successful.
