Shrek star Mike Myers is to feature in a remake of the classic film The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty, it was reported today.

Myers will take the lead role in the long-in-the-works remake of the 1947 Danny Kaye classic which is set up at 20th Century Fox, trade magazine Variety said.

Jay Kogen, a writer-producer on shows including Frasier and Malcolm In The Middle, is to write the script and the producer will be Samuel Goldwyn Jr.
Goldwyn originally had the project set up at Paramount with Owen Wilson starring, but it stalled in October 2005 after the studio failed to cast a female lead to play opposite the actor.

Mitty centres on a daydreaming comic book writer with an over-protective mother, who likes to imagine himself as a hero experiencing great adventures. But he finds himself in the middle of a confusing conspiracy and has to admit that being a hero in real life is not that easy.

This is the latest incarnation for Mitty, which has previously attracted Jim Carrey, Eddie Murphy and even Whoopi Goldberg, who was involved in a Martha Mitty version.

Myers' next project is The Love Guru, a comedy he co-wrote based on a character of his creation.
