There's a host of big screen action to keep the whole family entertained during the Easter period. Here's a rundown on the blockbusters you can catch.

Dr Seuss' Horton Hears A Who!
U, Already showing

From the same people who made the Ice Age films, under 10s will love the animation of this classic story. When Horton the elephant hears a cry of help coming from a particle of dust he is determined to save the tiny Whos from Whoville: 'After all a person is a person, no matter how small.' Jim Carrey and Steve Carell provide the voices.

The Spiderwick Chronicles
PG, Opens 21 Mar

Peculiar things start to happen the moment the Grace family leave New York and move into the secluded old house owned by their great-great uncle Arthur Spiderwick. Starring Freddie Highmore - who children will remember as Charlie Bucket in the remake of Willy Wonka and for his roles in The Golden Compass and Arthur and The Invisibles. Unable to explain the strange happenings, the Graces haven't bargained on a legion of goblin-like mythical creatures. A must-see fantasy as enjoyable for the adults as the kids, but take care with under 5s who may be scared by Mulgarath, the ogre (voice Nick Nolte).

10,000 BC
12A, Already showing

Set in pre-historic times where mammoths roam the earth, warrior D'Leh (Steven Strait) leads an army across unknown lands on a quest to rescue his people from extinction and save the woman he loves (Camilla Belle) from an evil warlord.

The Game Plan
U, Already showing

Wealthy quarterback from the Boston Rebels, Joe (Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson), is shallow and self-centred and likes it like that - and woe betide anyone who dirties his expensive furniture. Then one day his unknown 8-year-old daughter, Peyton, (Madison Pettis) turns up on his doorstep and turns his life upside down in this Disney family comedy. Romance comes in the form of Peyton's ballet teacher (Roselyn Sanchez). And - of course - there's a happy ending.

Fool's Gold
12A, Open 18 Apr

This rom-com reunites Matthew McConaughey and Kate Hudson after the success of How To Lose A Guy in 10 Days. 'Finn' (McConaughey) is an impoverished adventurer without a boat and his ex 'Tess' (Hudson) is a steward on a millionaire's yacht when they unexpectedly meet up again - and reunite to go in search of hidden treasure. Donald Sutherland is the millionaire and Ray Winstone pops up as a rival adventurer but mums might be too preoccupied with McConaughey's "six pack" to notice.

Vantage Point
12A, Already showing

Thomas Barnes (Dennis Quaid) and Kent Taylor (Matthew Fox) are two Secret Service agents assigned to protect US President Ashton (a rare appearance by William Hurt) who is shot minutes after arriving at a summit in Spain where he is due to sign an international agreement on the global war on terror. Chaos ensues. In the crowd are Howard Lewis (Forest Whitaker), an American tourist videoing the historic event, and Rex (Sigourney Weaver), an American TV producer. What's behind the assassination? For the answer we see each person's perspective - or vantage point.

Hannah Montana
U, Already showing

Following the success of the Disney Channel series, this 3D film - with the full title Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert - is bound to appeal to girls of a certain age even though it is only a film of a concert with a bit of back stage footage. Book tickets NOW - it's only on for one week and if your tweenie misses it, she may never live it down!

Flashbacks of a Fool
Tbc, Opens 11 Apr

Set in the Seventies Daniel Craig plays a drug-addled actor whose career is on the skids. Now in his forties he returns to his English seaside hometown for the funeral of his childhood best friend and experiences flashbacks of his younger years and a tragedy that changed his life forever. With a nostalgic Roxy Music and Bowie soundtrack. Be sure to watch out for Daniel Craig's shower scene.

27 Dresses
12A, Opens 27 Mar

Jane (Katherine Heigl last seen in Knocked Up) is always the bridesmaid and never the bride (27 times so far). She is in love with her alpha male boss (Ed Burns) who does not return the sentiments. Will the beautiful and funny Jane find her Prince Charming? From the writer of The Devil Wears Prada.
