Precious is a new-style weepie but one that is much more bracing than depressing

Ian McKellen is captivating throughout. He delights in the play’s gallows humour, yet is also maudlin and poignant

Though 'Trilogy' has won rave reviews, I personally found myself exasperated after about an hour
We went on a quiet sunday evening and the food was excellent, but the experience let down by the service and ambiance
London,

Dir: Orson Welles.
Cast: Orson Welles, Joseph Cotten, Everett Sloane
Description: Re-issue of the 1941 classic, about a recently deceased media tycoon, whose life is dissected in flashback post mortem by a tenacious magazine journalist. Modelled all too obviously on Randolph Hearst, Kane is a man undone by greed and ambition whose determination to be the very best forces him to sacrifice friendships, work relationships and ultimately his marriage.
Country: US. 1941. 118mins
Is this the greatest film of all time? It is certainly the most stunning debut, made by Orson Welles at the tender age of 25 in 1941.
It is almost impossible to count the innovations that have become a staple of the cinema, including Gregg Toland’s deep-focus cinematography.
William Randolph Hearst, the powerful newspaper baron upon whom Kane (played by Welles himself) was based, was infuriated by the film and saw to it that it was a box-office flop.
But to revisit it now is still to marvel at its wit, audacity and sheer entertainment value.
