Oh, what a lovely score

The tribute to Oklahoma's pioneers, with its unbeatable Rodgers and Hammerstein songs, was a Broadway landmark.
But it was never more than a so-so film, rather lumpily directed in 1955 by Fred Zinnemann.
It did, however, make Shirley Jones, as Laurey, into a star and cast Gordon MacRae in his most famous part as Curly, while Rod Steiger, pictured right, hammed it up as the villainous farmhand, Jud.
The score's still the most memorable thing, with the cinematography running it a close second.
