Rachel Bilson and Zack Braff plunge into an affair in The Last Kiss

Those who thought Paul Haggis's Crash was lucky to win its Oscar for Best Film may have their opinions confirmed by this only marginally entertaining romantic comedy.

Written by Haggis and directed by Tony Goldwyn, it tells of a young man (Zack Braff) who, when his girl (Jacinda Barrett) falls pregnant, panics as he feels his youth slipping away.

He plunges into an affair with a student (Rachel Bilson) and watches as his friends and even his girl's mother (Blythe Danner) try to sow a wild oat or two.

The problem with The Last Kiss is that almost everyone in it seems to deserve a sharp slap. They are all irredeemably smug and self-absorbed, so that even though there are some good lines and situations, you end up on the edge of the same boredom the characters themselves express.
