Preminger musical stands the test of time

A new print of Otto Preminger's all-black movie of 1964, ripped Hollywood-style from the pages of Prosper Merimée and the music of Bizet, stars the magnificent Dorothy Dandridge as a factory worker whose romance with Harry Belafonte's GI is fatally interrupted not by a toreador but a boxer.
Oscar Hammerstein's lyrics aren't his best, but Marilyn Horne's singing is striking, and the whole, though it seems a little striving now, still works pretty well.
