Grant comes a cropper with this rom com

Susannah Grant, an Academy Award nominee for her screenplay for Erin Brockovich, has come a cropper with this romantic comedy-drama.

Jennifer Garner plays Gray, whose life is upended when her fiancé dies and she finds Fritz (Timothy Olyphant), his childhood friend, seducing the caterer at the funeral.

To add to her woes, she also discovers that her fiancé has had a child by another woman.

Gray lives with Fritz's closest friends (Kevin Smith and Sam Jaeger) in Boulder, Colorado, and gradually finds herself falling for him despite all her doubts.

Catch and Release is reasonably well acted and directed, though none of the characters is very interesting and it's much too long. The net result is stultifying boredom.
