An awesome and ridiculous film that leaves you thrilled beyond the point of your natural endurance

The show has suddenly become quite wonderful, and the galvanising factor is the terrific stage debut of Melanie C

Music
The British pop music industry may be eating itself but if Muse are the pick of what it can offer the world in 2010 then British music is in rude health indeed

I was smitten by both Gilberts enormous luxuriant moustache and the intelligence and nuance of this highly entertaining play

Sex in the city: Michelle Williams and Ewan McGregor
With Ewan McGregor, Hugh Jackman and Michelle Williams at his disposal, even a debutant director like Marcel Langenegger can make a psychological thriller that entertains. This one often does, but it is also utterly unmemorable, despite the surprise twists that pull you this way and that as the story progresses.
McGregor plays Jonathan, an anonymous corporate auditor who is drawn by Wyatt, Jackman’s corporate lawyer, towards a decadent playground for Manhattan’s executive swingers which involves servicing high-flying women who want sex rather than relationships.
But he is not that sort of man at all, even in a specially bought $4,000 suit, and falls for Williams, who appears to be comparatively open to talk as well as bed. But soon we realise he is being manipulated by Wyatt, who has assumed the name of someone else. He plans to make a financial killing with Jonathan’s support — and is willing to murder to get his way.
Deception is competently handled, with a great many steamy close-ups throughout, and the performances are able without being outstanding. But the more twists there are, the less they convince. Charlotte Rampling is one of the ladies of the night, and her scene with McGregor is predictably one of the best in a movie that promises a lot more than it achieves.
