Sexy schemes of a gold-digging minx

Audrey Tautou, of Amélie fame, plays a scheming minx for the first time in French director Pierre Salvadori’s bedroom comedy. She seduces a doe-eyed barman (Gad Elmaleh) thinking he’s a millionaire, and uses him as such. He has to resort to becoming an older woman’s gigolo to pay the bills she runs up. He’s in love with her, you see, and in the end, much to her surprise, she reciprocates.
There’s nice playing all round, particularly from Marie-Christine Adam as the sophisticated older woman. This is a film about control rather than love, and it has moments of a kind of sexual irony that only the French manage so lightly but so well.
