Strangers claims to be true

By Charlotte O'Sullivan, Evening Standard  28.08.08

Strangers

Air of mystery: Strangers

Look here too

A good-looking, sophisticated, if somewhat pointless addition to the slasher-horror genre, this claims to be based on true events, a trick borrowed from the Coen BrothersFargo (the whole thing is entirely fictitious).

Middle-class couple James and Kristen (Scott Speedman and Liv Tyler) spend a night in an isolated cabin (his family home) and find themselves assaulted by a masked trio wielding axes, guns and knives. The bad guys look like members of heavy-metal band Slipknot and seem quite interesting (one has asthma and holds his hands like a sad penguin). They say very little and therefore acquire an air of mystery. The fretful victims struggle to compete.
