Dir: Jon Polson. Cast: Laura Dern, Russell Crowe, Jon Foster, Sophie Traub

Description: Eric Poole is released from a juvenile detention centre, having served three years for the murder of his parents. Apparently repentant, Eric goes to live with his aunt where he encounters emotionally wounded 16-year-old, Lori, who yearns to be close to him. She infiltrates Eric's new life on the outside, gradually getting beneath his skin. Not everyone is pleased to see Eric. Tenacious, veteran cop Detective Cristofuoro is convinced that the ex-con has not changed at all: he is still the same sick twisted predator and it will only be a matter of time before he kills again. Only this time, Cristofuoro will be there to stop him.

Russell Crowe as down-at-heel detective in Tenderness

By Derek Malcolm, Evening Standard  26.06.09

Russell Crowe in Tenderness

Obsessed: Russell Crowe in Tenderness

In this strange psychological thriller from Australian John Polson, Russell Crowe plays a down-at-heel detective with a desperately ill wife (Laura Dern) and a career going nowhere.

He is obsessed with following a young man (Jon Foster) released from prison early after killing his parents.

He’s put the boy away in the first place and is sure another murder is on the cards.

The boy links up with Sophie Traub’s adoring girl who is irresistibly drawn to the psychotic young man.

The film is based on a book by Robert Cormier and keeps far too much of his literary dialogue.

But the acting is credible and the city location work excellent.

What a good movie..

Well, Tenderness doesn't seem to be showing in any of the cinemas near me in the south of England, so I'm just hoping that it goes to DVD very quickly.

We Americans keep waiting for the USA release of this film. I relished John Polson and Russell Crowe's performances in the film Proof. I haven't seen anything that Polson's directed yet, but it makes me want to see their collaboration.

I don't understand why Lionsgate decided to hold this movie's circulation for so long. According to one interview by an Oz movie magazine with Russell Crowe, even he himself didn't have a clue about the long postponing. I truly hope that the movie execs at Lionsgate would change their mind about circulating this movie worldwide. Fingers crossed for more news.
