Pretty much a one-man show, this First World War drama was written and directed by Paul Gross, who also stars as the hero, an angst-ridden Canadian soldier who falls in love with a pretty nurse and finds all roads lead to Belgium.
What starts out as an ambitious, if gauche, attempt to tackle jingoism and the anti-German feeling of the era soon nosedives into bathetic farce.
Canadians have a reputation for being smart. However, Passchendaele was a huge hit at home, which suggests they are not quite as smart as we think.
