Percy Jackson
Percy Jackson is after the Harry Potter market

By Derek Malcolm
12 Feb 2010

This ineffably wooden Chris Columbus adaptation of author Rick Riordan's best-seller for young teens has a screenplay that defies description.

It's after the Harry Potter market but if it gets anywhere near it I may have to eat another hat.

Percy Jackson (Logan Lerman) is a problem high-school kid who discovers that the gods of Mount Olympus have walked out of his Greek mythology texts and into his life.

He learns that Poseidon is his real father and that he's thus a demi-god, accused by Zeus of stealing his lightning bolt.

Steve Coogan, of all people, plays the lord of Hades, Uma Thurman is Medusa, Pierce Brosnan a centaur and Rosario Dawson Persephone - they all look a little silly.
