Conservation Uncovered
Weekly from 4 October, free but advanced booking advisable
The British Library is opening the doors of its state-of-the-art Centre for Conservation to the general public for behind the scenes tours from Thursday 4 October.
Taking place every Thursday at 2pm for one hour, the tour will give members of the public the opportunity to see close-up the techniques used to conserve items from the British Library's collection.
In addition, there is the chance to speak to the people who are saving the nation's artefacts for future generations.
Visitors will also be able to watch how natural resources such as sturgeon is used as glue for ancient manuscripts, see unique traditional binding methods in action and view the skilful manipulation of gold leaves for titling books.
These tours will provide a unique insight into the amazing craft of art conservation.
