A six-day festival celebrating the diversity of east London begins on 6 March with bells ringing out from 24 churches including Bow Bells and Christ Church, Spitalfields.

The two-hour bell-ringing relay is due to start at 6pm and will involve 150 campanologists and members of the public.

The East festival, which runs until Tuesday, has a programme of more than 400 events, from film to fashion to food.

Highlights include a weekend of free family performances and workshops at the Barbican, latenight poetry and music at the Whitechapel Gallery cafè, a chance to learn juggling and stilt-walking at the Circus Space, a talk by writer Iain Sinclair at the Museum in Docklands and a guided "regeneration" tour of Stratford.
