Take me out tonight: Brazilian carnival

Brazilian Carnival
Tuesday, February 5, from 5pm,
Samba de Rainha, Carnival de Salao
Guanabara, WC2
(020 7242 8600, www.guanabara.co.uk)
£10.

Today is Mardi Gras, and the penultimate night of the Brazilian carnival in London.

Having launched on Friday with the London School of Samba parading the streets of Covent Garden, the party now hits the dancefloor.

Picking up momentum over the past four days, the carnival spirit is now reaching its zenith, accompanied tonight by Samba De Rainha, an all-female eight-piece fresh from Brazil.

It's the only London performance from the vibrant female group who have helped snatch samba from its male stronghold. The set will be accompanied by catchy carnival tunes and the marvellous 500-capacity Guanabara will be doling out caipirinhas.

Rio may have the advantage of sun but its equivalent is embraced with as much enthusiasm in London.
