A vote for this Assembly
17 September 2007
It's been argued that Kentish Town is being dragged up by the social bootstraps, and this is probably evident most in the pubs and eateries of the area. When we heard The Assembly House was under new management, our collectives hearts sank.
On paper, and judging by what's happening elsewhere in the world of pubs, we were expecting a soulless case of gastro-enter-it is, but in reality, it's not too bad at all.
On our last visit, there were still a number of the old patrons in attendance, clearly not too intimidated by the changes. Much of the interior has thankfully been kept intact.
The place benefits from huge, high ceilings and has plenty of seating for those who are in for more than a quick pint before heading over to the Forum. The nosh may seem a bit on the pricey side for pub food at first glance, but lordy, the portions are huge and the quality belies the price.
The staff are easy-going and attentive, without being pushy, and the relaxed atmosphere and unobtrusive music encourage you to stick around longer than you may have planned.
