Best in the neighbourhood
23 October 2007
Set in a quiet back street this is a bustling, lively and - more often than not - full pub.
With a foot in both the traditional pub and gastro camps, it manages to keep its punters happy by providing not only a very good choice of real ale and excellent food but also a selection of cider which rates as one of the widest in London.
There's a singular touch at work here, most clearly manifested in the witty menus and the range of second hand books for sale. A few people will remember it's previous incarnation (which was pretty awful): it's a damn site better and can only be described as a vast improvement - we hope they can keep it up.
The Dartmouth Arms offers a good medium between the full-on gastro of the Lord Palmerston and the more hardcore boozers of Junction Road, and is easily the best pub in the neighbourhood. And just to seal it, it's one an award for one of the best pubs in London by Fancyapint.com's reviewers.
FOOD REVIEW: The menu doesnt over-stretch itself, generally keeping it simple. The burger at £8 was excellent, as were the moules mariniere for £6 (Thursdays only) and the enormous continental meat platter. Served until 10pm weekdays.
