Make a great escape to the Elephant & Castle

A welcome refuge in the quiet back streets two minutes from Kensington High Street, the Elephant and Castle's multi-award winning flower-festooned facade almost hides this small and homely pub.
Though taken over by Nicholson's, it's not the normal routine for their pubs. The beer and service are good and the atmosphere is usually pretty lively. The food is tasty, and not Nicholson's usual menu, with daily choices and specials, and prices that are easy on the pocket.
It used to be that whenever there was a hint of sunshine the locals deserted the bar for the tiny front garden - now turned into a smoker's paradise - spilling out onto the street but there must have been complaints from the neighbours. Signs make it clear that drinking on the pavements isn't allowed past a certain time in the evening as a courtesy to the aforementioned. Still, it's got a lot going for it and its worth a look in.
