26 Smithfield goes for an upmarket look, and makes great claims for the quality for its food and drink. They even stock Adnam's Spindrift, which is marketed as an 'English beer' but isn't one fans of real ale will get too excited about. This one also plays host to live music events and even aims to make an impact at the weekends as a music venue (an interesting call as most of the pubs in these parts shut for the weekends).

One other attraction is a Roof Terrace - a handy spot in what can be a crowded drinking area. In our experience though, this is still a venue that's finding its feet: its definitely doing its best too muscle in to the Smithfield (drinking) market, but we've yet to see it fully pull in the punters on weeknights.

As a result it's not bad, but there's something lacking in the atmosphere that doesn't quite nudge this one up to a three pinter. We'll keep our eye on this one though.
