If you're in SW1 and want a pub the way pubs used to be, then the Rose & Crown is the one for you.

Tatty on the outside, the interior hasn't changed much since probably the 1980s. A huge bar dominates proceedings, and although the old lunch counter is now filled with bottles of wine, rather than cling wrapped sarnies, not much else is representative of the noughties. A couple of ales are on offer and Thai food if you're peckish, while a pool table fills a good deal of the space.

The last remaining older geezers who still live in the area prop up the counter, bantering with the landlady but otherwise there's a mix of wealthier student types and after work drinkers; we're pretty sure a few chauffeurs come here for a soft drink while waiting for their fares to finish shopping, too.
