The Audley, Mayfair - review
11 October 2011
The grand building that houses this pub is a fine complement to its handsome interior.
In a classy area such as Mayfair, you'd expect things to be grander than the norm and the Audley does not disappoint. Bedecked with chandeliers, fine decoration and topped with a magnificent mahogany clock, this pub provides an elegant setting for almost any social occasion.
The pub doesn't disappoint on the drink front either, with a good range of beers on the hand pumps (including regular guests) and all the usual wines and spirits you'd expect of such a place.
The atmosphere is civilised and friendly - you wouldn't expect anything else in these parts - and there's a reasonable range of traditional pub grub. The only downside, and it's a minor one, is this pub's a fixture on the tourist trail and you'll often encounter groups of uncomfortable, sometimes unhappy-looking people in here, often around mealtimes, which makes for a less than relaxed atmosphere.
At other times though, this is a very fine place for a civilised pint or two. It hasn't changed for as long as we can remember, probably because they're doing exactly what their customers want - and we can't fault that.
