The Victoria is perfect for a first-date

One of the last traditional boozers in Highgate (in terms of clientele and dcor), The Victoria sacrificed itself a couple of years back at the trendy altar of trying to make money and gave itself a carpet-removing makeover to entice the younger crowd.
Happily, it works well here, with a rich, dark interior, lots of plants and plenty of character.
The overall look is cosy and inviting. Every table also has a cup of trivial pursuit questions (albeit dating from before 1991, judging by the geography questions) - a nice touch which could certainly help break any first-date awkward silences.
It's a bit of a trek from both Highgate Village and Highgate tube, but it's very easy to combine it into a N6 pub crawl; you just might find yourself staying here longer than you anticipated.
A couple of well-kept real ales, good food, friendly service and a new Monday pub quiz makes the Victoria another pub-centric reason to visit Highgate; if nothing else, it's certainly one of our favourite watering holes in the area.
FOOD REVIEW: We tried the Sunday lunch which was very good indeed. Both the lamb and the beef (around £10) were nice cuts of meat. Both were served with some well prepared veg and an excellent Yorkshire pud. Generous portions, too. Served until 6pm. We'll be more than happy to try the weekday menu on our next visit.
NEAREST STATION: Highgate station
FEATURES: disabled facilities, ATM, real ales, dog friendly, traditional pub games, gay friendly, open after 11:00pm, outdoor seating, quiz night Monday
