Bubbly new start for Kettners

Like many of its celebrity clientele it was only a matter of time before Kettners had a facelift. A new bar on the first floor and a good-going-over of the famous Champagne Rooms have given it a new lease of life without forgetting its amazing past...
Opened in 1867 by August Kettner (chef to Napoleon III) the Soho restaurant has seen many famous faces enjoying an evening or two in its hospitable clutches.
King Edward II was one guest who loved Kettners - it is rumoured he used a secret passage that links The Palace Theatre with Kettners to have trysts with his mistress Lilly Langtree. In fact, he enjoyed Kettners so much that he even had his baths there! The second floor room, now named the Edward Room, was where the King and Lilly had a bite to eat and a play with their rubber ducks.
Oscar Wilde was also rather fond of an evening at Kettners and was a regular visitor in his London Society days.
The Champagne Rooms boast the largest collection of Grand Marques in London. If you feel like something a little more pricey than the house red with your pizza, how about trying one of the 20 bottles of Pol Roger Nebuchadnezzar at £820?
After months of renovations and the addition of its new first floor bar Kettners looks likely to enjoy the high society life once more. Now it's your turn to be a little Wilde...
