Critic Charles Campion finds the best places to eat in Islington.

La Porchetta
141-142 Upper Street, N1

This classic pizza house is only open in the evenings. Simple, well-made pizzas at fairly forgiving prices have built up a staunch regular clientele. A local hero. £12pp ex-drinks. (020 7288 2488).

Upper Glas
359 Upper Street, N1

A successful transplant from Borough Market, Upper Glas makes a good job of bringing Scandinavian classics to a wider audience. Best appreciated by those who like herring. £20pp exdrinks. (020 7359 1932).

Isarn
119 Upper Street, N1

A very sophisticated Thai restaurant: look out for the monkfish green curry with kuchai and basil, or the traditional noodle dishes. A pretty room and pleasant place to dine. £25pp exdrinks. (020 7424 5153).
