Five places for dinner to go

Here are some of London's best restaurants for dinner to go...

Brompton Quarter
223-225 Brompton Road, SW3 (020 7225 2107, bqbrasserie.com).

It's a January thing. You want a nice dinner but you don't want to cook and you don't want to spend all evening in a restaurant when you'd rather be casual at home. Ring ahead and you can pick up a whole meal (mains from £12) from the Brompton Quarter Brasserie. Grilled artichoke salad, Devon crab salad with avocado and Mary Rose sauce, lamb shank with mash.

Flavours Deli
10 Campdale Road, N7 (020 7281 6565).
Neighbourhood deli with friendly staff. Worth ringing to see what's on offer from the daily changing menu, which includes the likes of pasta Genovese, cumin chicken and a selection of fresh salads. Each around £4 per Tupperware box.

Tavola
155 Westbourne Grove, W11 (020 7229 0571).

Tavola is a traiteur that offers restaurant- quality food with an Italian bias, freshly made, big flavours - as you'd expect from head chef Alastair Little. Mains about a tenner.

Del Aziz
11 Bermondsey Square, SE1 (020 7407 2991, delaziz.co.uk).

There are three or four links to this small chain of Middle Eastern restaurants. The dips are fine and the stews are good - you can create a multi-course takeaway dinner without breaking the bank but it starts at £10.

Villandry
170 Great Portland Street, W1 (020 7631 3131, villandry.com).

This restaurant-cum-deli is a good place to order a simple dinner to go, with mains starting at £10-12 - everything from complicated salads to specials such as Hungarian goulash or a "healthy" option, the king prawn or free-range chicken tom yum.
