Five places to eat Mexican

Here are Charles Campion's picks of the best Mexican restaurants in the capital...

Boho Mexica
151-153 Commercial Street, E1 (020 7377 8418, bohomexica.co.uk)

Boho Mexica has quickly built up a local following. Cocktails are very good and the food comes in tapas-sized portions so try plenty of dishes. The cornbread is a standout.

Taqueria
139 Westbourne Grove, W11 (020 7229 4734, taqueria.co.uk)

This friendly and busy restaurant sports a magnificent tortilla-making machine and is owned by Dodie Miller who also runs the Cool Chile Company. The ceviche (made with pollack) and the carnitas are done well.

Café Pacífico
5 Langley Street, WC2 (020 7379 7728, cafepacifico-laperla.com)

Probably London's oldest Mexican restaurant, for decades it has been filling customers with tequila and the wherewithal to soak it up. The refried beans are particularly good.

Wahaca
Canary Wharf, E14 (020 7516 9145, wahaca.co.uk)

Wahaca at Canary Wharf is one of the youngest Mexicans in town. Good sound food in a rowdy atmosphere.

The London Restaurant Festival Market
Old Spitalfields Market from 11-13 October (and again 15-17 October) londonrestaurantfestival.com.

Mexican food will be showcased at the London Restaurant Festival Market. Expect food stalls run by restaurants such as Mestizo, Lupita and Santo and Mexican ingredients from suppliers like Mission Foods, Organic Exotic, Mex Grocer and the Cool Chile Company.
