Where to eat lunch at Borough Market

Go to Roast for a grown-up meal, Wright Brothers is a restaurant with edge and Brew Wharf's food is simple but tasty.

ROAST
The Floral Hall, Stoney Street, SE1 (0845 034 7300, www.roast-restaurant.com)

Perhaps the most grown-up restaurant in Borough Market, Roast occupies a magnificent space high in the old Floral Hall. The cocktail bar is comfortable and slick, as are the drinks. The menus depend on British produce, sticking to the seasons and nodding to traditional recipes.

WRIGHT BROTHERS
11 Stoney Street, SE1 (020 7403 9554, www.wrightbros.eu.com)

When it comes to oysters this is a restaurant with an edge, because it represents the consumer end of a large wholesale operation. You may come across oysters from as far away as British Columbia and Seattle, plus plenty of other seafood. Small, comfortable and with competitively priced white wines and Aspall's cider.

TAPAS BRINDISA
18-20 Southwark Street, SE1 (020 7357 8880, www.tapasbrindisa.com)

This is also the "restaurant" end of a famous food wholesaler — Brindisa imports Spanish delicacies. The jamon is good here and you can rely on a host of other tapas favourites. Settle in for cold Fino and a range of Spanish cheeses.

BEER WHARF
Brew Wharf Yard, Stoney Street, SE1
(020 7378 6601, www.brewwharf.com)

Brew Wharf has its own microbrewery that turns out half a dozen different real ales, ranging from best bitter to wheat beers. The food offer is mercifully simple and there are platters to share such as the antipasti platter, the meze platter and the Brew Wharf Platter, which combines duck spring rolls, chicken kebabs, chorizo skewers and fishcakes.

FENG SUSHI
13 Stoney Street, SE1 (020 7407 8744, www.fengsushi.co.uk)

The second Feng Sushi outlet and now part of a large chain. The company prides itself on fresh fish and easy prices. This chain also has a firm sustainability policy and all its salmon comes from Loch Duart. A good spot for a hit-and-run lunch.
