Where to eat on a date in Camden
Related Articles
03 December 2009
108 Parkway, NW1 (020 7267 9555, www.coastdining.co.uk)
Coast is a relative newcomer. It's a family-run business and the emphasis is on fish dishes. Anyone dating should try to secure a table towards the back of the dining room as the tables to the front are less intimate.
Gilgamesh
Camden Stables Market, Chalk Farm Road, NW1 (020 7482 5757, www.gilgameshbar.com)
Gilgamesh is a hoot. It's not cheap but it is lively and the bar here biffs out serious cocktails that are thrown down by an enthusiastic crowd. The food is pan-Asian-eclectic-fusion mayhem. One reviewer said his guest enjoyed waiting at the bar "recommending getaway cars to a series of large men in dark glasses".
Haché
24 Inverness Street, NW1 (020 7485 9100, www.hacheburgers.com)
This place is the acceptable face of hamburger restaurants and it's perfect if you want to take a date somewhere that's cheap and good but respectable. There are fish burgers and veggie burgers on offer, so it's not just for carnivores.
Market
43 Parkway, NW1 (020 7267 9700, www.marketrestaurant.co.uk)
Taking a date to this restaurant would send out the signal that you know your grub but also that you are not hung up on grandeur. The cooking is good and honest and the décor plain. Tables are close together so there won't be too much whispering but there's a friendly atmosphere.
York & Albany
127-129 Parkway, NW1 (020 7388 3344, www.gordonramsay.com)
This is an elegant converted pub that has been taken over by the Gordon Ramsay group. The kitchen is headed up by Angela Hartnett, so the food is fine, predominantly Italian dishes that are simple yet sophisticated. The bar upstairs is a great place to take a date, but if you plan to progress things to the restaurant "on the spur of the moment", best book a table some weeks in advance.
