What Taken over by Oliver Peyton last year, the vibrant tiled walls and Formica furniture give this café the air of a grown-up students' union. And the menu follows suit - it's all fishcakes, macaroni cheese and cocktails.
Order Salmon and haddock fishcake with poached egg and spinach.
Cost £20 for three courses without cocktails.
Best time to go Weekday lunch or dinner.

What Neon art on the walls, massive bronze sculptures between the tables, buckets of croissants and Cumberland sausages - it's Saatchi meets Nigella.
Order The venison carpaccio with truffle dressing.

Best time to go Early dinner after a stroll in the gallery (which closes at 6pm). Rating 8/10

What Following a £13 million renovation, the Gallery has a new dining room. Saunter round the Whitechapel Boys (works by Jewish artists who grew up in the East End) before sampling chef Maria Elia's very British menu.

Best time to go Sunday lunch.
