06 May 2010
Delicious food in a classic setting. Fine but affordable dining, with seafood as its specialty and an impressive selection of wines, whiskeys and champagnes on offer.
Hot Dishes
Sometimes it is the traditional dish that you cannot beat. Plaice fish and chips with minted pea puree is a classic British favourite cooked to perfection at Green's. Also, make sure you try the Oysters. The restaurant prides itself on its selection. All produce can be traced back to the fishing boat, estuary bed, farm, river or in some cases even the field where it originated and there is a real emphasis on sourcing food from UK suppliers.
Drink up
The restaurant overlooks The Runner Bar and a pre or post dinner drink here is a must. Occupying the original banking hall of Lloyds bank, it is the ideal setting in which to enjoy a glass of champagne or whisky. In keeping with Green's dining, the drinks on offer are carefully selected and of an excellent standard. The adjoining Glenmorangie Room and Laurent-Perrier Champagne Room are for the special occasion.
Ambience
The spectacular grade II listed building provides stunning surroundings and instills a formal atmosphere. But with The Runner Bar as the centre point of the building there is also a sociable element which creates a warm, welcoming touch. Book a window table for a romantic view overlooking Cornhill's magnificent buildings. For those in search of a glamorous dining environment that doesn't necessarily have to break the bank, this is your venue.
Where to find it
Opposite Bank station and the Bank of England. No wonder it is so popular with city boys.
Cheque Out
Starters range from £6 to £12.50; mains from £14.50 to £32.50 and puddings start from £6. There is also lighter food available at The Runner Bar. Expect to pay from £60 per head for a three course meal plus drinks.
