A Bite Out in London: Platform in London Bridge

What to expect
Restaurateur Tony McKinlay and his Devon farmer friend, the aptly named Barnaby Butterfield, had an ambition to deliver tasty grub from gate to plate and they have fulfilled the dream. The newly opened Platform in London Bridge combines fresh food, enthusiastic service and a great venue to form a welcome addition to the capital's bar/restaurant scene.

Hot Dishes
The menu alters everyday as it depends on what the farm has to offer. The meat is reared naturally and breeds are chosen for their flavour not their yield. What can be guaranteed is a mixture of unusual cuts and old favourites. The same rules apply to fish. Whatever is caught on the day will be on the menu. Be it Dorset lamb or a salty trout you cannot fault the freshness.

Drink Up
With an in house mixolologist it is little wonder that the hand-crafted organic and botanical cocktail list is so creative. Ingredients include syrups, bitters and teas. It is worth being a little adventurous and going for one of the zanier options. The Frank & Dino, for example, is designed to be the ultimate Spring/Summer drink. With vodka, lime, twilight tea syrup, aperol and coriander it is a much more exciting alternative to G&T. An extensive wine list is also available.

Ambience
Once a strip club, the two floor venue allows for a change in pace from one section to the other; the casual seating area in which to meet friends is conveniently located next to the long bar. The wooden staircase leads up to the more private dining area, with large glass windows, a view of the kitchen and a stunning reclaimed mirror ball hanging down from the arch above. This comes into action for the late evening session, as the bar is licensed till 3am. Even in its early days Platform is already buzzing. Ideal for a dinner/drinks date with no time limit.

Where to find it
Underneath London Bridge and just a few minutes walk from the London Dungeon and Borough market, it is surrounded by history and character.

Cheque Out
Expect to pay a minimum of £35 per head for a three course dinner and glass of wine.
