Ever had a friend request from someone on Facebook and, when you check out who it is that's asking, you realise you've never laid eyes on them (except in their profile picture)?
Well, I'm sorry to tell you they are after only one thing.
It seems that these days, arranging a bit of action over the internet, whether via Bebo, Facebook, Twitter or any of the other many social networking sites out there, is as much standard practice as saying: "Get your coat, you've pulled."
Indeed, at least four of my Twitter followers appear to be girls looking for sex.
Why they chose me, I couldn't say. So I went along to King's Cross to ask Londoners whether they have ever Twittered (or used any social networking site) for sex.
Yes
CJ, 20, fundraiser
It wasn't my primary goal for using a networking site but it happened — a few times actually. I see someone I like, add them as a friend, have a chat, see if we're compatible, go out and have a good time and see if it has a happy ending.
No
Richard, 25, teacher
I can categorically say no. My sex life is led by my faith, so being Christian I don't really think it's a moral way to operate. It's a lifestyle choice and it's not the one I choose.

I don't really like to sleep with people that I'm not in a relationship with. If I were to meet someone online and end up in a relationship, then that would be fine, but I wouldn't just contact them for sex.

Facebook has turned me into a dog. You see a picture, you feel a little funky, you send a fruity message — it has worked loads of times.
No
Isaac, 20, musician
It's not really my cup of tea. I like to do things the natural way, I suppose. I just think there are too many freaks out there.
No
Jeff, 30, engineer
Other people can do what they want but I don't really need to do it. I've got a girlfriend already and she probably wouldn't like it if I did.
Yes
Josh, 20, professional musician
It's embarrassing but I just wanted to try it out. I put some pictures up of myself and found a girl and said: “Do you want to meet up?” I wouldn't do it again.

If you're going to find a truly satisfying relationship it's not going to be through finding sex on a social networking site. Also, I'm married. I met my wife in church, we have a lovely relationship, and that would ruin things.
No
Ed, 23, unemployed
I think it might be a bit dangerous and impersonal. My friend did it and she had fun but I would be worried about being alone with someone I'd met online.

what ever happened to seeing someone you like, getting their number, dating for a bit and then getting together AND THEN you sleep together, me and my current partner met 5 years ago we were friends for ages before getting together 2 years ago and we couldnt be happier.

Of course use online networking sites for sex, fantastic. Whats the problem? Much better than trawling around bars and discos to meet up with someone and then realising your beer goggles were well and truely misted up the morning after...Keep you brains and weed out the freaks and obviuos sex workers punting their wares online and its almost a perfect set-up. I know girls with this opinion too so its not just from a male perspective

Seems immoral to me. Would much rather spend an evening at home with a nice romantic novel and a glass of vino.

Sure Yes. Facebook has some of the hottest singles in the worlds who are there for real, so why not date them after knowing them a bit and if we have a friend in common it feels safe too...

Top Tip: if you're going to use the internet whilst wearing little to nothing ensure your web-cam is unplugged. Please.
