Healthy appetite: food and drink can be better than sex

Do you prefer a good meal to a good woman or man?

The way to a man's heart, we have always been told, is through his stomach. And, as if to prove it, in a survey of 10,000 people earlier this year most men put food first (and sex fourth) in a list of their top pleasure triggers.

However, this never quite seems to work in real life. No matter how good the food, he still isn't quite over his ex, he's too busy with work, or has some other reason not to commit to a relationship.

So, what is the truth? I went to the brand new members' lounge Eight Moorgate, to find out.

Good woman
Ben, 24, online marketer
Basically, give a man a fish and it will feed him for a day. Teach a man how to fish and you will feed him for a lifetime. A good woman will feed you forever.

Good man
Karen, 27, retail assistant
With a good meal, you get your starter, main course and dessert, but then you never see it again. Then again, some bad men are like that too.

Good meal
Leila, 26, PA
The memory of a good meal will last forever. The memory of a good man doesn't, because they always end up pissing you off, and that's what sticks with you. A great meal will never piss you off.

Good woman
Sam, 47, banker
Frankly, it really depends on how hungry I am at a given moment but if my stomach isn't rumbling then I'll take the lady.

Good man
Jenny, 27, PA
You can have a good meal with a good man but a good man doesn't come as standard with a good meal. Good men are very, very rare, so if you find one you have to hang on to him.

Carrie, 35, business developer
If they're only on offer for one night then I'd choose the meal. If I could keep the good man for the rest of my life, it might be a different story.

Good woman
Graham, 49, writer
It has to be the woman because I'm getting married to her. The good woman will last for life.

Good man
Laura, 26, administrator
Such a hard question. It's a very fine line. I feel bad saying a good man because I'm quite a foodie but sometimes you just need a jolly good, er man.

Most women these days can`t cook anyway except if it comes in a packet so they are going to have a job on getting most men if the saying is true.

I don't think food is a way to a mans heart, any more, in fact I no longer know what it takes to get to a mans heart! And I am even suprised, in this day and age, when a woman tell's me that she can cook! Please enlighten me.

The woman who thinks the way to a man's heart is through his stomach is aiming too high.

Cannibals get the best of both worlds (but only once) :)

What a very dismal view the women quoted seem to have on men, I think there are plenty of lovely chaps out there!
