Geneva-born Alban de Pury started out scouting for talent at indie label 4AD in New York before moving to 679 Recordings, home of The Streets, The Futureheads and the Mystery Jets, in London.

The 31-year-old A&R man, son of Simon de Pury, chairman of auction house Phillips de Pury, branched out on his own in 2007 and set up his label Yodel Music.

Now Alban has started working with Phillips de Pury: tomorrow, the Music sale, a music-related contemporary art, photography, design and memorabilia auction, takes place at the auction house in Victoria, where Damien Hirsts and Andy Warhols will go under the hammer. It is the culmination of a two-week music-meetsart season in which Jarvis Cocker, Patrick Wolf and Micachu & the Shapes have performed.

'We focused on art, photography and design influenced by music,' he explains. 'And I included works from musicians who are also artists.' He found pieces by Pete Doherty, Sigur Ros, Björk, Bryan Ferry and John Lennon. 'I combined my music experience with the art world I grew up in.'

How are you going to glam up the auction?
DJ Matthew Herbert is doing a live soundtrack to the auction, influenced by lots being sold and reactons in the room, using the auctioneer as a singer. I can't wait to hear it.

What's your hot pick at the auction?
I love I'm Not Gonna Live Forever (est £3,000-4,000), a neon piece by Israeli artist Yochai Matos, or Andy Warhol's Michael Jackson (est £150,000-£250,000) - the King of Pop meets the King of Pop Art. Damien Hirst's Beautiful Psychedelic Rays of Dancing Love Hours Spin Painting (est £200,000-£300,000) - whatever your opinion of Hirst, the colours are incredible.

Musically, who should we look out for?
Josh Weller. I manage him, so I have a vested interest. Catch him on tour with Paloma Faith, he's playing Koko on 23 November.

Who would you most like to work with?
Björk, Rufus Wainwright or Sebastien Tellier. I admire Florence & the Machine: she has presence and even manages to sell records.

What's next for you?
A similar event at the Phillips space in New York's Meatpacking district. I'd also like to sign more acts to my label and develop more artists.

The auction takes place on Saturday 21 November at 5pm at Phillips de Pury & Company, Howick Place, SW1 (phillipsdepury.com)
