Down the cakehole: Christmas pies, hot froyo and boozy smoothies
01 December 2011
Since none of them are high-street brands - neither M&S nor Pret get a look in - check in with Boxpark's resident foodies when it launches on Saturday next to Shoreditch High Street station. In the middle you'll see a salad company, chop'd, which beds down alongside Soho's hippest coffee house Foxcroft and Ginger (ask them to show you their coffee art). Further along is Vietnamese street food at Hop-Namo (little sister of Namo) and Mexway tacos and burritos.
At the other end, Bukowski begins grilling its delicious charcoal burgers while Crussh promises us boozy smoothies (when they get their late-night licence) and Pieminister launches its festive pies (we recommend the Christingle, with honey-roast parsnips and chesnuts, or Three Kings Pie, with turkey breast, bacon, herb stuffing and cranberries). Finally, the boys at Frae have worked out a way of making froyo - that's frozen yoghurt for the uninitiated - hot. In their new Boxpark shop, you can go for your usual pot of natural, green tea or chocolate flavour yoghurt and add warm blueberry, apple or rhubarb crumble toppings for an extra £1.50. It's fat-free, not calorific, and it actually comes from cows and not a packet of powder.
