Furstenberg splashes colour into New York

An unfaltering affection for colour that packs a punch has long defined Diane von Furstenberg's place in the American fashion industry.

Her latest collection, unveiled at New York Fashion Week yesterday, proved no exception.

While this was an offering in which punchy tones of coral pink and lime green dominated, no shade went unrepresented. Among the collection's highlights was a candy-floss pink trouser-suit and a beautifully draped aqua-blue column gown.

Unusually for Von Furstenberg, the bold, statement prints which in previous seasons have played the principal role in her work were only a minor feature.

For evenings, the label offered up draped column gowns in vibrant hue of electric blue while the slightly tapered cigarette trouser also appeared throughout the collection.

Also showing at New York yesterday was Victoria Beckham, reigning designer of the year.

Watched by her husband David in the front row, the pop star turned designer sent out a polished collection of figure-hugging dresses which came in jade, black and cobalt blue.

The offering, which marked Beckham's eighth appearance on the New York fashion week schedule, was considered by those in attendance to be among her best yet.
