Zips, shifts and swimsuits: Michael Kors’ New York chic

You can always count on Michael Kors to do two things: sum up how the chic uptown New Yorker wants to look, and design a killer swimsuit.

His standout for spring 2010 was a black one-piece with slimming clear plastic side panels.

The collection featured a palette of eau de nil, lilac and pale grey, offset with stark white in fabrics from glove leather to crumpled cotton.

Oversized cashmere V-necks were worn with airy skirts. The shift dress was a key shape, in leather or boucle crepe. Zips added toughness, snaking across dresses and defining shoulders.

For evening, sequins were out in force: a white cap-sleeved dress with black polka dots was perfect for cocktail hour.
