Futurology: Rose Gold

While that might be a source of embarrassment in the case of a wedding ring it certainly isn't for make-up.
This season everybody has gone a bit metallic — and the alloy of choice is rose gold.
All the make-up brands are at it. Bobbi Brown's latest Glitter Lip Balm Palette might have a chrome exterior, but the interior is distinctly pinky-gold — and to match it there's a Rose Gold Shimmer Wash Eyeshadow.
Benefit's One Hot Minute Rose Gold Finishing Powder (right) has become a best-seller and Estée Lauder's Sensuous Gold range has been so popular that it has completely sold out.
Over at Illamasqua, they've taken a different approach, creating this season's look by mixing gold Liquid Metal eyeshadow with a pink cream blusher.
Of course, it's MAC that started all this. Backstage at the autumn/winter 2009 catwalk shows, MAC Pro make-up artists were busy smothering their Rose Gold Pigment (which comes in little dipping pots) all over the models.
At Chloe it was swept over cheekbones and under brows — giving the girls a bedroom-eye look to match their loose wavy hair, pyjama-style suits and relaxed lines of the collection.
Diane Kruger imitated the look to go with her Chloe jumpsuit on an outing in London this month. The effect was a natural glow (the one we thought she just exuded naturally).
On Alessandro Dell'Acqua's runway, the look was similar (this time combined with slicked side-partings and dark lips), while Marni went for a harder-to-pull-off-in-real-life spreading of rose gold all around the eyes with no mascara — which unless you like looking anaemic is probably best avoided.
