Feel good factor: Juvéderm Hydrate Facial

Beauty powers: A potent mix of hyaluronic acid — a naturally occurring substance in the skin — and the antioxidant mannitol is administered into the dermis with a needle. Clinically proven to hydrate the skin in the face, neck and decolletage, its French manufacturers claim 95 per cent of women given this new treatment were pleased with the results.
Any surprises? The multiple injections. For some reason I thought I was going to a relaxing, hydrating facial on my day off. In truth, this is a properly invasive treatment requiring about 200 tiny injections around the face, including above your top lip — what the French call the barcode. Nice. Happily, your skin is slightly numbed, first with a cream containing lidocaine, a local anaesthetic commonly used by dentists, but it's not enough to stop your toes curling.
Transformed? On day five my husband said: "What have you done to your face?" Admittedly there were about 15 tiny bruises covering it. Further treatments were cancelled. Yet once the bruises faded, the results were very noticeable — plump, glowing skin — so much so that vanity propelled me back for two more sessions, each less bruising than the first. Close friends continue to comment on the improvement, and apparently the effects last up to a year.
Try it out: Juvéderm comes in four different formulations to treat every wrinkle from "moderate" lines and lips to "nasolabial" lines (between the nose) and lips and facial contours. £360 etc £360/three treatments; Medicetics, 37, Connaught Street, W2 (020 7402 2033, medicetics.com)
