The hotspots for runners

Have you ever considered what it might look like when the whole of London goes running? Well, having created a simple heat map of where New Yorkers most liked to jog using data collected from Nike+ apps and pedometers - instant feedback on the go - American student Cooper Smith has done an audit for this city and it turns out we all like exercising best on grass and near water.

Smith's map uses broad, illuminated lines to illustrate the most popular pathways. Based on statistics from 10,000 people running between November last year and April 2011, he concluded that those in central and south London are drawn towards The Serpentine, Regent's Park boating lake and the Thames, while East End runners prefer to move along Regent's Canal by Victoria Park and Wennington Gardens.
