It's not too late to hit the slopes...

Having neglected to make it on to the slopes over the winter the pressure was on to find a resort that was within easy reach and where most of the pistes would be open despite a bad winter for snow.
It was with those key factors in mind that I took the decision to return to the delightful resort of Les Carroz, which is just an hour's drive from Geneva airport.
I knew that thanks to the handy location of this little French village in the Haute-Savoie, close to Mont Blanc but much prettier than Flaine, a morning flight would get me on to the slopes just after lunchtime.
But don't make the mistake of assuming that its handy location is to the detriment of the resort itself; Les Carroz is the gateway to the incomparable Gran Massif, with its 265 kilometres of immaculately maintained Alpine slopes.
One thing I immediately noticed on my arrival was a sharp increase in the number of British skiers and snowboarders at Les Carroz this year: the secret was out! But as Philippe Poëttoz, the director of the tourism office, explained to me - the Brits were just catching on to what the French, Swiss, Belgians and Germans already knew.
I was in a rush to get going and was aided in my mission by Alain Caron, whose SkiSet and New Loc stores allowed me to hire all my gear and use his shuttle bus service to get back up the mountain with plenty of daylight left.
And I was soon reminded why I return to Les Carroz year after year. The locals are welcoming, the prices are reasonable, the location is convenient and the pristine pistes go on and on.
