'I transform things destined for the dump into desirable furniture'

"Five months ago I was walking past the shop and saw a sign saying they were looking for a carpenter. I'd just retired – I used to run my own joinery shop and had an antiques business – so I offered to work one day a week.
"When they showed me a stock room of broken furniture, I was amazed – some of the pieces were lovely antiques that, with a bit of care, could be transformed into very desirable pieces worth several hundred pounds.
"That's money the Trinity Hospice gets – and I know at the same time I am saving beautiful items destined for the dump.
"We even collect a lot of stuff saving people who donate the hassle of delivering it. They get the satisfaction of knowing that once their unwanted item is restored it will be cherished by someone else.
"We get everything in here - I'm working on an antique bureau at the moment and there's a piano that has been re-tuned and restored.
"It means I really look forward to Tuesdays. We are all here because we want to be and it's very rewarding."
