"I have taken a career break and wanted to do something to help others during my time out – and as I enjoy walking I decided to volunteer my time to The Ramblers.
"The routes are planned by volunteers and then I take groups – ranging from six to 15 people – out on the walks which are often to places they would not normally consider.
"Taking exercise on your own can be daunting but in a group we motivate everyone – also everybody encourages each other and not only do you feel safer it is nice to have companionship. The ages and backgrounds vary hugely.
"I have taken a group of Somalian women in their 20s on a walk as well as a group in their 50s and 60s who were recommended to get fit by the nurse at their doctor's surgery.
"Walking is the ultimate green way to keep fit and healthy – and anyone can do it and it is free. It is also a great way to meet new people. Getting involved in the Get Walking Keep Walking project also means I am helping people who may not normally do much exercise.
"Also it is a way to discover new places. I took one walk around Southwark Park and had no idea before the walk that there was such a vast open space in that area of London."
